William McKenzie

CoP Leader

William is a Senior External Advisor for McKinsey & Co’s. Capital Projects & Infrastructure service line.  He provides guidance and support on infrastructure strategy, planning and delivery with a particular focus on Africa. Prior to McKinsey, he was a member of Bechtel and an officer in the US Air Force.

At Bechtel, William held several roles including Business Development lead for African Infrastructure and Country Manager, for Bechtel’s Gabon operations.  While at the US Air Force, he rose to the rank of Captain  assuming leadership roles in Global Communication Systems and Trainer Aircrafts.

Within both organizations, he witnessed the transformative impacts of Lean/Six sigma.  He has been involved in initiatives improving design efficiency, optimizing proposal development, and reducing on site re-work.  Further, William’s experience across Africa has given him insight into the value add Lean/Six Sigma can bring to the continent. 

William possesses an MBA from MBA, London Business School, and a Bachelors of Science in Political Science & International Relations, US Air Force Academy, 2001

Lizelle Van Rooyen

Event Leader

Lizelle van Rooyen started her career as a project assistant in 2003 with Group Five Projects (Pty) Ltd.
She has since been involved in various small to large commercial and infrastructure projects locally and internationally for 15 years plus. She has worked for several blue chip construction and engineering (EPCM) companies and has since joined the Development Bank of South Africa’s Infrastructure Delivery Division in 2015.

In recent years she has focused her career as Project Execution Planner and is an avid advocate of the Lean Construction tool called “Last Planner® System”. Lizelle is an active member of the international non-profit body “Constructing Excellence” and “Lean Construction Institute” (LCI) and has a focused interest in the research, development and implementation of “best practises” with regards to communication, collaboration and coordination on construction projects.

In 2017 she was a key note speaker at the SACPCMP Conference on the topic “Introduction to Lean Construction and the Last Planner®
System tool”.

Lizelle obtained her N.Diploma in International Communications from Tshwane University of Technology and completed the Programme in Project Management through University of Stellenbosch.
